Rule Breakers: Socks & Sandals

Love it or hate it: It’s time to rock out with your socks out

As we approach the end of the year, we’re here to round you off with a major style tip that you can rock all the way through the New Year. The first culprit for our rule breakers theme is none other than the classic socks and sandals debate. Would you dare?

This year saw an unexpected amount of the socks and sandals combo – something we couldn’t imagine before ‘dressing ironically’ became a thing. Remember how we used to laugh at the famous fashion faux pas? Even Kim Kardashian rocked the duo at the dispense of a handful of (golden) memes. Suddenly, something dad-like and horrendous became a runway breakthrough.

Strap up and channel the legacy we all learnt from none other than Ugly Betty – the much looked up to fashion publication assistant running around New York. She is essentially the matriarch of the trend with her staple colour clashing socks and heels scuffing along the New York pavements. We’re not saying you should dive straight in with colour blocking, but here’s where you can start.

One of the best things about this trend is the practicality. It’s cold, it’s winter in London, it’s most probably raining. You have an event but you’re trying to avoid frostbite. Cold enough yet? Socks and heels. Pedicure-conscious and haven’t painted your toes? Socks and heels. Want to pretend like you know what you’re doing style-wise? Socks and heels.

The trend is the easiest way to give the impression of being fashion-savvy, when all you’ve actually done is added extra comfort to your ensemble. Here’s some examples of our favourite celebrity sock n’ heel inspirations…
